The team at Cantab Contracting recently worked on a 50-millimetre commercial water upgrade and we thought we would document this process to show how we go through this process.

We’ve done many projects like this one, but every one of them have their challenges. The first hurdle to accomplish is investigating the site to see exactly what’s required. We would have already been informed on the job, but plans may be tweaked once we’ve visited the site. From here we plan the project, order any required materials to get the job done and schedule in a time where we can get the water shut off.

For this project we were able to dig up the site ourselves (if asphalt we will contract out this work), turn the water off, remove the old water connections and install the new gear. This includes the strainer, valve, meter, and any additional fittings to join the existing pipes together. We then put boxes over these to protect them, test the water again and we’re good to go!
